Clay Shirky (born 1964) is an American writer, consultant and teacher on the social and economic effects of Internet technologies and journalism.
His courses address the interrelated effects of the topology of social networks and technological networks, how our networks shape culture and vice versa.
He is a member of the Wikimedia Foundation’s advisory board
Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing Without Organizations (2008) - the effect of the Internet on modern group dynamics and organization. According to Shirky, the book is about “what happens when people are given the tools to do things together, without needing traditional organizational structures”
